• "If you have tears prepare to shed them now...." Enjoy the work of the world's greatest playwright in your Shakespeare course. You'll study the fascinating "Julius Casesar" and learn about politics, power and betrayal. Why was Caesar brutally stabbed by those he trusted? What is the future of the great empire of Rome after his death? Why does his ghost come back to haunt his killers? Find out the answers to these questions in year 7, whilst also trying out your acting and drama skills. Then, create  a role you can show to the rest of your year group at the Shakespeare Festival.   • For the fiction unit, you will have the chance to read either a full novel, a selection of short stories or extracts of fiction writing. You will learn about characters and plot, narrative styles and how writers create an effect on the reader. You'll also get the chance to try some fiction writing of your own, using all the techniques you have learnt on the course. So, get ready to use your imagination and journey through the world of fiction!

  • "Poetry: the best words in the best order!" In this course, you'll find out about the different forms of poetry and try writing some of your own. From acrostics and haikus to ballads and shape poems to limericks and sonnets,  you'll get the chance to show us your poetic skills and ideas through poetic tecniques and form. Experiment with the English language to show your ideas to the reader and enjoy listening to  poems of others on a variety of topics.  

  • What would happen if your plane crash landed on a deserted island? How would you survive without food, water or shelter? Would you be tough enough to survive a disaster like this one? Well, "The Island" project in year 7 gives you the chance to explore these ideas through a variety of activities and tasks. Try out your writing skills in diary extracts, plan a rescue attempt in a speaking and listening activity and read some tales of island survival from other writers.  You've seen the team on "Lost", now let's see if you can survive for as long as they do!
